Summary:

• The test is administered during school, typically only on the first available date (Contest A).
• The test lasts 75 minutes.
• There are 25 multiple-choice questions, and there is a guessing penalty.
  • A correct answer receives 6 points.
  • A blank answer receives 2.5 points.
  • An incorrect answer receives 0 points.
• Calculators are allowed.
• There are two versions of the test available to high school students: the AMC 10 and the AMC 12.
  • The AMC 10 exam is open to all students currently in 10th grade or below.
  • The AMC 12 exam is open to all high school students.
  • Students with an advanced knowledge of mathematics are recommended to take the AMC 12 exam.
• Those who perform well on the AMC contest will be invited to take the AIME contest.
